Update 2nd May 2020

KEEPSAKE BLANKETS:

On Monday 27 April Lisa Wells, the Ward sister working on F22 end of life covid ward at QMC asked if our members would knit, crochet or sew keepsake blankets size approx 70cm x 88cm (2 tea towels side by side) for the patients. They use 100 per week. Any design, it doesn't have to be stripes. Just Colourful. Knitted hearts are also welcome. The blanket, heart and a teddy bear are offered to the patient’s relatives. Please note: They will only be washed at 60 degrees if required to be given and used by another patient. Here is a photograph of one with a teddy Bear and 2 hearts.

Letter sent to WIs on 17th March 2020 Dear Nottinghamshire WI members,

In light of the current coronavirus pandemic and with concern for our members we are closing the federation office to members from Wednesday 18th March at 3pm until further notice.  Any phone messages and emails will be dealt with. Any bookings for use of the River room are cancelled.

WI Meetings: What’s the situation with pink elastic? The constitution says, “A minimum of 11 meetings open to all WI members should be held each year in whatever month or months and at whatever place or time decided by the members or the committee”. The first thing is should not must, and this is an unusual year. The second thing is whatever month or months. So if members are to receive value for money then 11 meetings should be held during the year, even if this meant two or more in one month or even all of them in one month. As long as all the members are told where and when, and the meeting/event/activity is free [apart from refreshments and/or raffle] it can be whatever you like – a walk, a picnic, kurling, visit to art gallery etc. WIs with pending year-ends are requested to extend their financial year to 31st July. Any WI not able to hold their Annual Meeting is to postpone it until September. We have been advised by NFWI that refunds for subscriptions are not being considered.

We are not participating in the Bulb Scheme this year.

There will be no Hornblower until August.  The 50:50 has been drawn and cheques will be sent out. There will be no involvement with Notts County Show. All other events in May, June and July are either postponed or cancelled as follows:

All events organised by Federation and sub-committees have been cancelled or postponed.

April:

3          Annual Federation Meeting postponed until the evening of September 23rd at Newark Palace Theatre. Prize Draw tickets will be valid for the new date and the draw will take place then. Please send in any Coins for Friendship cheques to the office for us to send on to ACWW.

Updates, if any, will be posted on our web page and Facebook.

We hope you will keep your spirits up in this time of crisis and that, as a WI, you will do what you can to help in your communities as far as you are able.

Please take care and stay safe.

Kind regards Sue Sanderson  Federation Secretary
