About Us
Welcome to the Gedling WI webpage.
We hope the webpage will inform and involve all our members and visitors.
Gedling WI is a charity and we aim to improve women's lives in our community and benefit life in the Gedling area. It is a chance for women to:
- make new friends and enjoy friendship
- take part in a wide range of opportunities including monthly meetings, a varied and interesting programme with speakers and demonstrations, fundraising, social events, outings and activities
- widen their horizons by taking advantage of educational opportunities
- find and learn new interests and develop these
- build on their existing crafts and skills
and most importantly – have fun!
We meet on the 1st Tuesday of the month in the Memorial Hall on Arnold Lane at Gedling, Nottingham NG4 3HH, directly opposite the Church of All Hallows at 7.30pm.
Our members gather together for at least 11 monthly meetings each year, to enjoy a programme of events organised by the Committee.
Our meetings vary from interesting and inspiring guest speakers on a wide range of subjects to crafty get-togethers, social times such as 'natter nights', our annual garden party and our Christmas party - with the odd coffee and cake thrown in for good measure! There is then some brief WI business such as future events, visits and activities.
Our Groups
COFFEE & CRAFT GROUP
Meet people who like to do all types of sewing and crafts - if you love making things from fabric, yarn, beads, buttons or thread, this is the group for you. When we meet, we show off the projects we have made, talk about where we have got stuck and get help from the others, and get inspiration for what to do next. Members also bring along any small portable project of their own to work on during meetings. Some of the members are currently knitting squares to make blankets for Charity. All skill levels are welcome including beginners. You can also come along if you just fancy a chat.
WALKING GROUP
Walking is great for overall health. If you enjoy walking and want company whilst doing so, then Walking Group may be for you.
THEATRE & CINEMA GROUP
If you enjoy seeing a movie or going to the theatre and enjoy socialising then this group is for you.
COFFEE MORNINGS
Members meet locally once a month at The Mustard Seed in Gedling for coffee and a chat.
SUNDAY LUNCH GROUP
This group is for members living on their own and would like company for Sunday lunch, but is also open to other members who would like to come along.
In addition there are a variety of opportunities for members organised by both the Nottinghamshire Federation and National.
As if that wasn't enough, Gedling WI also hosts fundraising events, to include a stall at Gedling Village Family Gala on the 1st Saturday in July of each year.
